Ke Dawei's Daily Life in China

XingShan the new city:

Party view:

Xing shan is a new city built for the people being moved out of the way of the flood waters of the Chang Jiang river (the river being dammed by Three Gorges Dam, San Sha Da Ba).   It's a nice city, modern and clean.  The people care about their city so don't litter.  The city does not need an army of sweepers as most Chinese cities require.  It's nicely flowered with good wide roads.  It sits on the plain of a small valley.

Getting into Xian shan is unusual as the road getting to Xing shan is not very good (currently being updated).  So you travel on a horrible bumpy dirt road and suddenly the road widens to an ultra modern fast 8 lane road and you find yourself at the edge of a modern city.  There is no other city north or south for about 75 kilometers and no roads immediately available east or west.  There are lots of cities located like this in China but this is the first brand new one I've seen.

The Communist government headquarters is the central building in the city and sits up on a slope overlooking the city.  They did a nice job on this city so deserve their lofty perch.  The people who were uprooted and live here probably don't miss their old homes much after living here for a while.  The few I could talk to were happy as a clam.  The people I've shown these pictures to back in Changde estimate that the folks here are much better off and love the place.

All the government buildings are in a semicircle in front of the party headquarters building.  The following view are looking right to left from the party headquarters building.  This is the court house.

To the left is a building for party meetings.

Not sure what this one is.

Avenue between buildings.

Not sure what this one is either.

Just to the left is a huge billboard with the city layout.  It has all the city acreage with dates and comments over vacant lots of when they will be filled.  The city will be finished in two years but the essentials and extras are mostly complete now, and nice.

This is a family city.
