Ke Dawei's Daily Life in China

Tea Fields:

The tea trees are constantly cropped to keep the size down for easy picking and to give preference for new leaves to sprut. Which leaves are picked makes quite a bit of difference in taste and profit.  The small spring leaves are prized.  These leaves are small and picked when furled (have not open fully so wrapped around itself).  The leaves are carefully picked so as not to crush them.  Most pickers wear a small neck bag or side bag which is enough to contain 2-4 hours of picking.

The house in the background is a collection point.  Right after picking the workers will sell their tea.  Most tea is grown on small plots but some is grown in village collective plots.

Children help with the harvest which at times interrupts their school work.  Their small fingers are prefered for picking the best spring leaves.

The good tea areas are solid tea fields up and down the slops and valleys.
