Orange Harvest Market:
Shamen xian is famous for its oranges. Buyers spring up everywhere at harvest time buying small loads of oranges from anyone. He may contract sell or sell to a passing truck which wants a load.
The loads come in and get quickly sorted for size and quality then stored temporarily inside. They get bagged, boxed or just put on a large truck probably headed for a low end market or juicer. The workers below are quality and size sorting. The long green machine in the background is a size sorter.
A guy with a work vehicle just dropped off the load being sorted. He's also a middleman, picking up oranges out in the countryside and delivering them to a second middleman.
A quick sale location. A truck stops at an expected place and anyone wanting to get a little better price can sell to the trucker directly.
For many the truck market is a good deal. He's out in the countryside. Just getting a cartload to the cement road is enough of a chore so having a close by sale opportunity is a good deal.
Growing oranges is a a bit easier on older folks and a good crop for hilly locations. The weather and land make Shamen ideal for growing oranges, has an orange festival and well know in this part of Hunan.
