Grave Sweeping Day in Hubei China. Grave
Sweeping Day is a day when the Chinese remember their departed relatives. They spruce up the spruce up the grave sites and decorate
them. They also light off lots of
firecrackers to ward off the evil spirits and lets the departed know someone is
around that cares about them. The plots
are above ground and house an urn as vast majority of departed are cremated.
Cemeteries are almost always on hills. This is a large one but out in the
country there are small and individual plots in the fields, a nearby hill and
sometimes mixed in crop plots. The event
is well attended so huge numbers of people are traveling to the cemetery. The road to the cemetery is blocked off to vehicles other
than bicycles or foot traffic and busses are run from the city to the site. ¡¡ |
