Grasslands, Farms and Rivers at Inner Mongolia, Nai Mongu, China:

These are a series of pictures from the Grasslands of China's Inner Mongolia, Nai Mongu.

The light spot in the middle is sheep at a watering hole at an isolated countryside farmhouse.

Typical Chinese farmhouse in Inner Mongolia.

The basic house is mud but many have been updated to brick.  During the grazing season the farmers will pack up the yurt and head for the open grassland.  It becomes a field base with the main base being the house so the farmer will make trips back to the house or nearby village for supplies.

Small village cluster of farmers and herders.

There are piles of dung all over the grasslands which is used for stove fuel.

Cattle grazing out on the grassland.

Pretty scrubby area of  wind swept plain.

Below: The soil is light fine sand so does not build up significantly in the rivers.  Most rivers are shallow with only a few inches of water but very wide. The banks are weak and break down easily.

The rivers in Inner Mongolia meander over the wide flatland making wide flat beds.
