Chinese Family Hotel:

 The nicest hotel in China.

  This hotel is a conversion of someone's home into several small rooms.  But the place was decorated everywhere and very unusual because of that. The place was very clean for a house in China and a Chinese hotel. Small and loaded with interesting "things" the place was cramped and wonderful. Without question one of the best hotels I've stayed at in China or anywhere else.  The wall pictures below from the second floor will be a surprise.

   After pulling off the highway into a small town the few hotels in the area were expensive and not so nice.  I asked a local if there were any smaller hotels in the area and they pointed out this place.  

An inside tiled stair wall, very unusual and nice.

Very basic, clean and comfortable bed with a nice grain pillow.

The place had 6 rooms on the second floor (three floors altogether).  This is three beds.  You can get one and pot luck.

The second floor was loaded with patriotic pictures.  Everyone has them in there home but not like these.

Here the kicker.  The middle picture is Stalin.

Very handsome.  He was probably the most handsome mass killer ever out side of Mao who was said to be very handsome.

This is Deng Xiaoping.  He at least recognized strict adherence to state controlled multi-year plans and communes were failures and opened up China to limited market economy.  China has prospered in proportion to its dropping of inefficient ideas.  For example, Japan was as economically devastated in the 40's as China but currently has a much larger GDP.  China currently appears prosperous but has a limited elite enjoying the fruits of 1.3 bullion workers.  State run monopolies masquerading as free market businesses earn oodles of money with an inexhaustible supply of cheap labor.

Tasteful and clean.  Note the spittoon and fire extinguisher on the wall (extremely rare anywhere in China).

There were large clocks sprinkled everywhere, very unusual.  Note the decoys by the clock.
