Chinese Doorway Decorations from Shanxi and Henan:  

In central Shanxi and Henan the houses are different than Hunan.  The doorways are decorated with tiles and quite nice.  This picture is of a fairly large compound home and looks into the main entrance.  There were a number of very nice looking houses that I could not get a shot of because of vehicles in front,  traffic, dust & etc.

The doorways and walls are quite tall.

Many compound homes have a wall directly behind the entrance.  The wall is just a stand alone wall for privacy 4-8 feet high.  You have to walk through the entrance to the compound then walk to the right or left to get around the wall.  These walls are usually decorated.  This picture is looking through the main entrance to the inner wall which is 4-6 feet behind the main entrance.
