Cave homes terraced:

Cave homes get built over time going from lower on a hill to higher.  The first home will have a natural roof of trees or shrubs which usually gets cleared to a garden so crops on top of the house; in Sianxi usually corn.  Later someone builds higher and some arrangement is made about possession of the roof area which gets converted to the patio of the new house.   Very few of the homes will have road access other than the ones at the lower sections.  Most have a small path to their homes.
