Improving
your spoken English. There are a few items ( 事
), which are helpful to know to improve your spoken English.
All Chinese speakers of English say, “My English is very bad”. Chinese students spoken English is generally (一般来说) very good for the number of years have been learning English. Compared (相比) to a native speaker their English is not perfect (完善), but that is normal (通常) and expected (预期). You cannot compare yourself to someone who is highly (大功告成) trained (兵强马壮) in any area. If you talk about Chinese history with a Chinese professor he will loose you in facts that have taken him years to accumulate (积). Your Chinese understanding of history will be “very bad”) compared to his. Does that mean your knowledge of history is really “very bad”? No. It’s the same for Chemistry or another subject. You are still learning and not highly trained in anything yet. You could say you are “very bad” in every subject you know but saying that would silly (糊涂). Adjust (改) your attitude (架势) for you level (水平) of learning (才学). In general Chinese students of English are very good to excellent speakers of English for their level of learning.
You know many words but you do not know them all in the same way.
Some words you have used many times and know them very well. Other words are new or are not used often (时常)
and are hard (辛苦)
to remember quickly.
Words are your tools (械) for speaking.
How well you know your words will influence (影响) how
quickly and how well you can speak. It
takes a person years of practice to get to know the tools of their trade(工).
Just memorizing words is not enough to make you a good speaker if
English. You must be able to select
and choose the right word quickly when speaking and that requires knowing you
words well. Memorizing a word is
one thing. Knowing a word is
another. You must get to
know your words well to be able to use them quickly.
Knowing you words well is one of the most important (沉重)
parts of learning to
speak well.
Speaking is different (不同) than
reading, writing and listening. There
are common (寻常) elements
(组成) to
each of these skills but they are different.
Reading and writing happen (发生) slowly.
You have time to think of the words you need.
Speaking happens quickly so you have very little time to think.
You must know your words very well to be able to think of them quickly
and be able speak freely (fluently).
Memorizing is a start to knowing your words but to know them well you
must use them repeatedly. You must be familiar with your tools (械)to be able to
use them correctly. Just knowing
what a basketball is and the basics (初) of throwing the ball to the basket does not make
anyone a good basketball player. A
person gets good at basketball by repeatedly practicing all the aspects (局面)
of basketball.
It is the same for speaking. You
can speak now but to speak well you must practice, repeatedly. 孰能生巧

English. It is using the tools you
have and helps you to know them well
Speaking out loud is essential. Reading
out loud is a very good way to practice speaking.

dictionary you don’t know. Try to
read as quickly as you can. Scan
the sentence looking for groups of words and phrases.
Making mistakes is not important; it’s fluency (流利)
that you want to develop.
When you listen to others in the conversation you will get to hear words
used in new and different way. It
helps to build you understanding of your words. It
is not enough to just memorize words.
You
must use your words.
