Water Sources: The river below is part of the water system providing drinking water for many eastern Massachusetts towns and cities. It's the main water source for Boston. This water comes from a river to the right and the tunnel outlet to the left. (The white part is a waterfall). The tunnel comes from a large reservoir in the middle of the state called the Quabin Reservoir. The tunnel is about 6 meters in diameter and runs from the middle of the state to this location about 40 miles away. This water runs to another large reservoir which is about 10 miles in length. From that second resevoir it the water runs in underground pipes or tunnels to Boston. Marlborough gets is water from this source. The water from the reservoir is pumped to a hill and stored there for distribution by pipes throughout the city. The large black tank is old and not in use. The green tank is about 20 years old. There are two tanks like the big green tank in Marlborough located on hills and provide all of the water for the city. |
